Team India’s Unlucky Players 11 That Will Miss Asia Cup 2022
Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, the most unfortunate as we look at the unlucky players 11 for Team India to miss Asia Cup 2022.
Ever since the official squad for Team India was announced for Asia Cup 2022, the talk of the town has been the selection committee. Unfortunately, a few players missed out due to injuries. Whereas a few players were simply not considered even in the list of final probables.
BCCI selected a total of 15 players to defend the Asia Cup 2022 trophy, which India had won in 2018 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. In addition, 3 players have been named as standby. These players will only be considered for selection if any of the 15 players suffer injury or COVID, and is unable to participate further.
While 15 are the chosen ones, we will look at 11 players who would form the unlucky players 11 to miss the flight for Asia Cup 2022. These 15 players have performed really well off late in the shortest format of the game. They will as well form an alternate best playing 11 to have represented the Indian team. Alright then, let’s get to it.
Unlucky Player 11 for Asia Cup 2022
Shikhar Dhawan
If there’s one name that will definitely consider himself unfortunate is Shikhar Dhawan. The southpaw just does not seem to be on the India team’s radar in T20Is. Honestly, the Indian team has moved on from Dhawan in T20Is, but the fact remains that Dhawan has been one of the consistent performers in IPL. In the last three years, Dhawan has scored 618, 587, and 460 runs respectively, which is excellent.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
The Orange Cap winner of IPL 2021 has been a backup opener for quite some time now. His International performance may not be up to the mark with 135 runs from 9 innings at a strike rate of 124. But he will get his chances when the senior players are not around. He may be a touch unlucky, but only temporarily until the senior players are around.
Shreyas Iyer
The third player is Shreyas Iyer, who will definitely consider himself unfortunate. The guy has been the leading run-getter for Team India in 2022 in T20Is. But still misses our due to healthy competition. It was a tough call between Deepak Hooda and Shreyas Iyer. Ultimately, Selectors went ahead with a more dynamic player, Deepak Hooda. Thankfully, Shreyas Iyer is still in the reserves.
Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan is the second-best ranked Indian Batter in T20Is, but still doesn’t make the cut. It’s nice to see how Rohit Sharma has ignored the Mumbai Indians lobby to give more importance to what the national team needs. Even if his performance has been good recently, other players are more deserving them him. So, Kishan will have to wait for his chance.
Sanju Samson
Just like Kishan, Sanju Samson has been one of the probable players for the Indian team. Given the squad limit of 15, it’s not surprising that Sanju has not been selected. But the good thing is Sanju has been hitting the right chords with his recent performances for Team India unlike a few years back. If he keeps doing this, we should soon see Sanju as a regular player in the Indian team.
Axar Patel
Coming to the lower order, Axar Patel is the name that may consider himself unlucky. Honestly, Axar has been quite good in the recent past while playing for Team India. But his competition is the like-for-like Ravindra Jadeja. It is no secret that Jadeja would have been preferred over Axar. But that takes nothing away from the fact that Axar has been good in T20Is off-late.
Deepak Chahar
Before the selection committee announced the final 15, Avesh Khan vs Deepak Chahar debate was the hottest one. Rumours speculated that Deepak Chahar could get a go before Avesh Khan. But since Deepak was making a comeback from the injury, he wasn’t considered. However, if he does well in Zimbabwe, he may get a go in the final 15.
Jasprit Bumrah & Harshal Patel
Two bowlers will consider themselves unlucky only because they are suffering from Injuries. Those are Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah. Both were sure-shot contenders for the final 15 spot, but just a few weeks back, Harshal suffered from a rib injury and Bumrah suffered from a side strain. Hopefully, both are fit before the T20 World Cup 2022 as they would be needed there.
Kuldeep Yadav
If there’s one spinner that is again unfortunate to have not been selected, that is Kuldeep Yadav. Only a few months back, the left-arm chinaman was the second-best spinner in the Indian team. But injuries kept him out of the game for a long time, and in the meantime, Ashwin and Bishnoi capitalized. But the more he plays, the better his chances will become to make it to the squad.
Mohammed Shami
Just like Dhawan, one name that is just not on the radar of the selectors for T20Is includes Mohammed Shami. Selectors have been very upfront on Shami being only considered for ODIs and Tests. But that again doesn’t take away the fact that Shami has been a consistent performer in IPL. In the last 4 years, Shami has taken 19, 20, 19, and 20 wickets respectively, which is excellent.
