ICC CWC 2023: India vs Australia Best Predicted Playing 11
Captain Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins in focus as we look at India vs Australia confirmed playing 11 for ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
It’s time for Team India to begin their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign as they take on Australia at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai. Both teams are packed with superstars, and on a deck that is supposed to be spin-friendly, we can expect tons of excitement given the quality of players in both teams.
Team India and Australia only recently concluded the 3-match ODI series, which the hosts India won 2-1. Even as India look favourite on paper, the ODI World Cup is a different experience altogether. On paper, India would be playing Australia for the 13th time in the ODI World Cup. While Australia have previously won 8 times, India have won it 4 times.
The expectations from India would be pretty high. Not only do they have a strong team on paper, but they are also playing at home. The last time India played at home in an ODI World Cup was in 2011, which India had won under the Captaincy of MS Dhoni. Similarly, Australia would want to bring out their beast best in the World Cup as they usually do.
Meanwhile, both Teams have a few availability issues when it comes to their key players. So, as we wait for the match to begin, let’s look at the confirmed playing 11 India vs Australia Group stage match of the ODI World Cup 2023. Before that let’s look at the official squad and key match details for both teams.

Team India’s Best Predicted Playing 11
Just as the world was about to witness the Shubman Gill show at the World Cup, we are exposed to unfortunate news. It is understood that Shubman Gill is down with a fever, and is most likely to miss the first match against Australia. While Dravid is hopeful that Gill will get fit, the result looks unlikely. So, in Gill’s absence, we should see Ishan Kishan as the opener alongside Rohit Sharma.
The middle-order for Team India should see Virat Kohli at 3, Shreyas Iyer at 4, and KL Rahul at 5. Even if Ishan Kishan plays, we should see KL Rahul donning the wicket-keeping duties. Meanwhile, India would need Virat Kohli at his absolute best in the World Cup. Similarly, India would need Shreyas Iyer to continue his form in the World Cup as well.
Coming to All-rounders, expect India to play all of their All-rounders on the spin-friendly pitch of Chennai. While Hardik Pandya should play the role of pace all-rounder, India should play Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin as the spin-bowling all-rounders in the team. This is a really strong combination as Ashwin adds good batting depth at number 8.
Coming to the Frontline bowlers, India should play Kuldeep Yadav as the primary spinner. At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj should be the only frontline pacers in the playing 11. To support these three India have Hardik in the Pace department, and Jadeja and Ashwin in the spin department.

Australia’s Best Predicted Playing 11
For Australia, the discussion would surround the two big names, Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis. Between the two, Travis Head will definitely miss the initial few matches as he will need time to recover. So, in Head’s absence, we should see Mitchell Marsh as the opener with Smith at 3, and Marnus Labuschagne at 4.
The other discussion point shall be the selection of Marcus Stoinis. It is understood that Marcus Stoinis is still not game fit, and that was also seen in Warmup matches. In Stoinis’ absence, expect Australia to play Cameron Green in the finisher role. Cameron Green may not be a like-for-like replacement for Stoinis, but there is no dearth of quality in there.
Other than these two changes, expect Australia to play the pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins. Given that Australia don’t have a good second spinner in the side, Adam Zampa would need support from Glenn Maxwell, Marnus Labuschagne, and maybe Steve Smith too.
