IPL 2025 Best Overseas Players Ranking for All 10 Teams

The year 2025 has started, and one of the most exciting events of the year, IPL 2025 is just a few months away. The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League started with the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. It was a terrific event where many records were shattered. It allowed the teams to have a level-playing squad, and for sure each team has added a lot of quality Indian and Overseas players in their side. While Indian players are always the talking point, teams focused a lot on adding quality Overseas players too.  

Every team has spent a good amount of salary on at least their top 4 Overseas players. Overall, if we were to look at teams spending most on their top 4 players, we have Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have spent 57 Cr on their top 4 Overseas players, viz., Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, and Adam Zampa. Whereas Mumbai Indians have spent the least at 24.5 Cr on their top 4 Overseas players, viz., Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, Allah Ghazanfar, and Will Jacks. 

Ideally, each team needs four solid first-choice Overseas players, and two more additional backups in case of injury concerns, or fitting the team combination. An ideal overseas player’s ranking can be derived from calculating the cumulative rating of the top 6 Overseas players. Hence, instead of all 8 players, finding the cumulative rating of the best 6 Overseas players for each team will be an ideal comparison. #10: Lucknow Super Giants

Starting with number 10, we have the LSG team with their Overseas players rating at 8.625. Now, 8.625 isn’t a bad rating at all, and it signifies the level of competition in the tournament for Overseas players. David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram are LSG’s best first-choice Overseas players, and that’s a solid quartet to have. However, their backups are decent players, and that’s where they lose some rating points.

MI are a bowler-focused team when it comes to their Overseas players with the likes of Trent Boult, Allah Ghazanfar, Mitchell Santner, Reece Topley, etc. While all these are known names, there is a definite lack of star power in their Overseas players department.

They have three solid Overseas bowlers in the form of Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana, and Wanindu Hasaranga. While RR have four solid Overseas players, the backups are decent on paper.

What’s even good is the quality of backups in the form of Faf du Plessis, Donavan Ferreira, and Dushmantha Chameera.

It does show from GT’s quality of Overseas players in the form of Rashid Khan, Jos Buttler, Kagiso  Rabada, and Sherfane Rutherford. Aside from four solid Overseas players, the other ones like Glenn Phillips and Gerald Coetzee are good options to have.

The team has Matheesha Pathirana, Noor Ahmad, Devon Conway, and Sam Curran as their top 4 Overseas players, and that’s excellent. Their top 4 Overseas are so strong that they kind of increase the overall rating with decent backups in the form of Kamindu Mendis and Ehsan Malinga.

Right from the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Liam Livingstone, Nuwan Thushara, Phil Salt, and Tim David to Romario Shephard, there is supreme quality in the players. RCB can at best play all their 8 Overseas players along with Kohli, Patidar, and Bhuvi, and they can have a solid playing 11.
