IPL 2025 Mumbai Indians (MI) Retained Players Best List

Rohit Sharma set to move out as we look at the confirmed retained players list scenarios for Mumbai Indians (MI) for IPL 2025.

One of the most celebrated and successful franchises in the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians are going through a big transition phase currently. With Rohit Sharma counting his last few years in the Cricketing world, Mumbai Indians in the most surprising fashion transferred in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans, and also made him the Captain of the side last year.

The move wasn’t taken positively by the fans seeing the booing and backlash. Fans felt, that the person who got Mumbai Indians to not only their maiden IPL title but also made them the most successful franchise in the IPL wasn’t given the respect by removing him as the Captain. Rohit didn’t once mention anything in support or against the move. It seems even Rohit wasn’t taken into confidence, cause if was taken into confidence, he would have spoken something positive about the Captaincy row.

Maybe Mumbai Indians could have waited for just one more year as Mega Auction was any way around the corner. However, the move will lead to a significant shift in MI’s strategy for the IPL 2025 Auction. So, as we wait for the official list to be out, let’s in the meantime evaluate the possible combinations that Mumbai Indians (MI) for their retained players ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

IPL 2025 Mumbai Indians (MI) Retained Players List – All Combinations

The biggest question that Mumbai Indians will face is whether they retain Rohit Sharma, or rather Rohit Sharma himself retains with Mumbai Indians. Rohit was the Indian team Captain when he was replaced by Hardik Pandya as the Captain of the side. While he has now retired from T20Is, he is still the leader in two formats for India. With many teams eyeing a leader, Rohit can be a good choice to lead for another few years.

Scenario One – 4 Players Retained

Given the current scenario in Mumbai Indians, and the retention policy, it looks unlikely either MI would want to retain Rohit, and vice versa. So, consider this as an almost confirmed thing. Rohit Sharma will move on from Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025. With this news, let’s talk about the four ideal retentions for Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025, and those are Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tim David.

Mumbai Indians do have many potential players in their side, whom they will retain without a second thought given a chance. But with the scenario of retaining four players, no better than Hardik, Bumrah, SKY, and David. Ideally, Tilak and Kishan are better bets than David, but BCCI won’t allow more than 3 Indian players in 4 retention scenario. This is also only possible if Bumrah and SKY decide to stay with MI.

Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav are also potential leaders, and Suryakumar Yadav has been chosen above Hardik Pandya to lead the Indian T20I team. Ideally, the two should be in the side playing under Hardik Pandya, but they too had aspirations to lead and earn more money. While money can be taken care of, the duo won’t be able to Lead in the presence of Hardik Pandya. But given MI’s relationship with Bumrah and SKY, expect the duo to stay with the side.

Scenario Two – 5 Players Retained

Talking about scenario two of retaining 5 players, Mumbai Indians should mostly opt for Ishan Kishan above Tilak Varma. Sure, Tilak Varma is an exciting talent, but Kishan is a more experienced and proven player, and thus should get a chance first. So, expect Mumbai Indians to retain Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, and Ishan Kishan when it comes to retaining 5 players.

Scenario Three – 6 Players Retained

Moving on to the last scenario, it should ideally have been Tilak Varma. But doubt BCCI will allow retaining more than 4 Indian players if 6 retentions are allowed. So, in this scenario, the next best bet among Overseas players is either Dewald Brevis or Nuwan Thushara. Brevis hasn’t lived on to his Junior Abd tag as yet, but there’s definitely potential there. Whereas Nuwan Thushara has already proved to be a good match-winner. Hence, retaining him alongside Bumrah will be a good decision.

IPL 2025 MI Best Retained Players List:

  1. Hardik Pandya
  2. Jasprit Bumrah
  3. Suryakumar Yadav
  4. Tim David (o)
  5. Ishan Kishan
  6. Nuwan Thushara (o)

So, that’s about the best retained players list scenarios for Mumbai Indians (MI) for IPL 2025. Overall, a lot will depend on the willingness of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav to retain Mumbai Indians. While Rohit should definitely leave, Ambani’s power will be crucial to retain the other two. Meanwhile, from uncapped players, Nehal Wadhera, Akash Madhwal, and Naman Dhir will be in focus.
