IPL 2024: Ranking All 10 Teams for their New Best Playing 11
Mumbai Indians (MI) once the standout team on paper as we look at the ranking and rating of the new best IPL 2024 playing 11 for all 10 teams.
We are only a few weeks left from the official kick-start of the Indian Premier League festival in India, and we already have a few surprising changes in the squad of some of the teams. While injury has ruled out the likes of Mohammed Shami and Devon Conway, there have been some opt-outs in the form of Mark Wood, Jason Roy, Gus Atkinson, etc.
With so many quality players not available, it goes without saying that the teams who have invested in these quality players will take a huge beating. Not only will this affect their team combination but it will also affect the quality of the side and team morale in a way. However, there is no dearth of quality available in the market. So, if one player goes out, it is a great opportunity for new players to make an impact.
Having said that, with so many changes in the squad already, how about we reanalyze the new best playing 11 for each team, and rank them from 1-10 with 1 being the best. Again, to arrive at the ratings, we shall relatively rate the top 11 players on a scale of 1 to 10 against the benchmark player across each category. Finally, a cumulative rating shall be calculated to arrive at the overall rating and ranking.
IPL 2024 All 10 Teams New Best Playing 11 Ranking
Gujarat Titans
The first team on the list, and it will already come as a shocker to you. Well, GT’s playing 11 is placed 10th on the list with a rating of 8.462, and the departure of Hardik Pandya and the injury of Mohammed Shami are the two main reasons why their ranking dropped from 2nd to 10th position. With two MVPs not there, their replacements, Shahrukh Khan and Umesh Yadav don’t match the stature of these two. Nonetheless, GT will need some inspirational performances from Captain Gill, Williamson, Miller, and Rashid Khan primarily.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Gujarat Titans (GT):
Shubman Gill (c), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Sai Sudarsan, Kane Williamson, David Miller, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Spencer Johnson & R Sai Kishore (i)
Sunrisers Hyderabad
At number 9, we have the SRH team with a playing 11 rating of 8.485. SRH have some really good names in their playing 11, but it is their performances in the last couple of years that don’t inspire confidence. With the addition of Travis Head at the top, and Captain Pat Cummins in the bowling department, SRH also have Aiden Markram and Henrich Klaasen; thus making it a solid overseas combination. However, SRH’s weakness is their lower-order of Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed as it lacks experience.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH):
Travis Head, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar, Pat Cummins (c), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan & Mayank Markande (i)
Rajasthan Royals
At number 8, RR finds themselves with a playing 11 rating of 8.500. RR have a solid top-order, which is their strength. However, their weakness is their pace bowing that relies heavily on Trent Boult, and the likes of Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Sen haven’t had much impact in T20s off late. While the batting is sorted for RR til the number 8 position, the bowling will need Yuzi Chahal, Ashwin, and Boult to take most of the responsibility.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Rajasthan Royals (RR):
Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c&wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Rovman Powell, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Avesh Khan, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal & Kuldeep Sen (i)
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Coming to number 7, we have the RCB team with a playing 11 rating of 8.523. RCB, like RR, are batting heavy. In fact, RCB’s batting lineup is probably the best in the competition. However, it’s RCB’s bowling that is a big miss this time around. The team’s best bowler is Mohammed Siraj, who in fact isn’t even a part of the Indian team setup. So, for RCB to have a big impact, they need their bowling to fire big-time.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):
Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Mahipal Lomror, Lockie Ferguson, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal & Vyshak Vijaykumar (i)
Punjab Kings
At number 6, we have the Punjab Kings with a playing 11 rating of 8.545. PBKS are kind of the opposite of RCB with a superb bowling line-up, but a below-average batting lineup. The batting for PBKS is heavily dependent on Dhawan, Bairstow, and Livingstone. The others are inexperienced and can give you a few important knocks. But PBKS’ strength is their bowling, and if everyone performs to their potential, they have a long way to go.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Punjab Kings (PBKS):
Shikhar Dhawan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Prabsimran Singh, Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sam Curran, Rishi Dhawan, Harshal Patel, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh & Kagiso Rabada (i)
Lucknow Super Giants
At number 4, we have last year’s Playoffs team, LSG with a playing 11 rating of 8.568. As we can see from the rating, be it number 10 or number 5, the rating difference is quite nominal, and this highlights the competitiveness that we are going to witness in the competition. LSG’s rating could have been better, but with Mark Wood not there, their rating kind of reduced a lot. Nevertheless, LSG’s main strength is their batting, and they have a quality top 7 to rely on.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG):
Quinton de Kock (wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Deepak Hooda, KL Rahul (c), Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Mark Wood, Shivam Mavi & Amit Mishra (i)
Delhi Capitals
Moving on to the top 4, we have the Delhi Capitals team with a playing 11 rating of 8.652. DC have a power-packed side this season with the addition of Rishabh Pant. They bat deep till 8 with a good batter Lalit Yadav coming in that position. Similarly, they have good first-choice five bowlers with support from Lalit Yadav and Mitchell Marsh additionally. If Pant regains his form, DC may once again find themselves in the Playoffs at the very least.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Delhi Capitals (DC):
David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (c), Harry Brook, Axar Patel, Kumar Khushagra (wk), Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar & Khaleel Ahmed (i)

Chennai Super Kings
At number 3, we have the defending champions CSK with a playing 11 rating of 8.689. CSK lose their number 2 spot due to the absence of one of their star opener, Devon Conway. With Conway unavailable for 90% of the tournament, Rachin Ravindra will most-likely fill his spot. While Rachin has talent, he has yet to make an impact in the IPL. However, with MS Dhoni’s charm to get the best out of his players, even a newcomer like Rachin can give gold returns to CSK. Other than this, CSK look like a complete side in all departments.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK):
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c&wk), Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Maheesh Theekshana & Mukesh Choudhary (i)
Kolkata Knight Riders
Number 2 will come as a surprise as we have the KKR team with a playing 11 rating of 8.742. Well, technically, KKR does not have any standout batter or bowler like Suryakumar Yadav or Jasprit Bumrah. But in their first-choice playing 11, all have good IPL experience, and they have more or less done quite well in the IPL in the last two years. So, be it Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Shreyas Iyer, Russell, Starc, Narine, or Chakravarthy, it is a potent side that can challenge any side in the competition.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):
Phil Salt (wk), Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Manish Pandey, Sunil Narine, Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy & Suyash Sharma (i)
Mumbai Indians
Finally, at the number 1 position, we have the MI team with a playing 11 rating of 8.894. MI are potent in all departments, and there is hardly any weakness in the side. Be it opening the batting, middle-order, finishers, spin bowlers, or pacers, MI have everything they can ask for. With Hardik Pandya as the leader, and a dangerous Rohit Sharma at the top, if MI don’t end up in the top 2 in the Playoffs, it would be a shocker.
IPL 2024 New Best Playing 11 for Mumbai Indians (MI):
Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (c), Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Mohammad Nabi, Gerald Coetzee, Jason Behrendorff & Jasprit Bumrah & Piyush Chawla (i)
So, that’s about the new best playing 11 ranking and rating for all 10 teams for IPL 2024.
