IPL 2023: RCB vs MI Match 5 Confirmed Playing 11 for Both Teams
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in focus as we look at IPL 2023 Match 5 RCB vs MI confirmed best playing 11 for both teams.
The IPL 2023 has kicked off to a thrilling start with Gujarat Titans edging Chennai Super Kings in a last-over finish. While Rashid Khan led the Titans with superb bowling, it was Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan himself, and the finisher Rahul Tewatia helping the Gujarat Titans defy the odds to complete yet another successful run chase.
The first match of IPL 2023 was the first time where Impact player rule was initiated. In the form of an experiment, the impact player rule has changed the dynamics of the game with teams now carrying two playing 11 with one favouring the bowling and the other favouring the batting. This way, teams are given the freedom to choose the playing 11 based on the result of the toss.
Nevertheless, we now see the strongest team on paper, the Royal Challengers Bangalore take on probably the weakest team on paper, Mumbai Indians in Match 5 of IPL 2023. Last year, MI finished at the bottom of the points table. Whereas RCB finished third after winning the Eliminator before losing Qualifier 2.
So, in this article, we talk about the best predicted playing 11 for Match 5 of IPL 2023 where Mumbai Indians take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, given the way teams are selecting their playing 11, as shall look at the two playing 11 – one for batting first and the other for bowling first. Before that, let’s look at the key match details.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Predicted Playing 11
Royal Challengers Bangalore shall be without a few of their key players for their Match 1 of IPL 2023. While Wanindu Hasaranga is busy with International duties, Josh Hazlewood and Rajat Patidar are still recovering from the injury, and shall be unavailable for the first match. Hence, selecting two playing 11 for batting and bowling first would be an interesting affair.
Undoubtedly, teams are given the freedom to prepare two playing 11 based on whether they bowl first or bat first. For RCB, If they bat first, they shall play an extra batter in the form of Suyash Prabhudessai or Anuj Rawat, who would then get replaced by a bowler in the second innings. Similarly, if RCB bowl first, RCB may play an extra bowler in the form of Akash Deep, who shall get replaced by a batter in 2nd innings.
Overall, expect RCB to have Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, David Willey, and Reece Topley as their first-choice overseas players. While Willey is filling in for Hasaranga, Reece Topley is filling in for Josh Hazlewood. Apart from these two, Rajat Patidar is not available. Hence, Anuj Rawat or Suyash Prabhudesaai seem to be ideal replacement options.

Mumbai Indians’ Predicted Playing 11
Mumbai Indians are not without their own problems either. The team is already weak on paper with a lack of good all-rounders and bowling options. Widening the issues, MI will now also be without the best pacer of the tournament, Jasprit Bumrah. While Sandeep Warrier has been called as a replacement, he is still no match for the skills of Bumrah.
With MI getting two options to select their best playing 11, expect MI to play an additional batter in the form of Vishnu Vinod in place of a bowler. Whereas while bowling first, Mumbai Indians should play an additional bowler in the form of Arshad Khan or Sandeep Warrier in place of a batter. For the batting slot, Tilak Varma seems to be the only plain Indian Batter who can get replaced.
Overall, Mumbai Indians will be relying on their star players, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jofra Archer to get them going into the tournament. It’s a fact they don’t have a good team on paper. But with the Impact player rule, the probability of failure shall be less. Plus, if their star players perform well, MI can sneak a surprise this year.
