IPL 2023: All 10 Teams Ranking Basis Their Overseas Players

Andre Russell, Cameron Green among the star players as we look at the final overseas players list ranking for all 10 teams for IPL 2023.

Overseas players are an important part of any team in the Indian Premier League. A team can have a maximum of 8 overseas players in their squad, while only 4 are allowed to play in the playing 11. Given the immense value that overseas players bring in to IPL, there’s no surprise that teams invest big in them.

The IPL 2023 Auction saw the two highest salaries in the history of IPL being given to two overseas players. While PBKS acquired Sam Curran for a salary of INR 18.5 Cr, Chennai Super Kings acquired Ben Stokes for INR 17.5 Cr. But how does the overseas players look like for all 10 teams? Well, let’s look at the ranking of all 10 teams based on overseas players for IPL 2023.

To help us arrive at the ranking, Teams are ranked basis of their cumulative player ratings. Players are relatively rated basis the benchmark players in their respective categories like Openers, Middle-order, Finishers, All-rounder, Pacer, and Spinner. The rating for all the players is derived basis their last three year’s IPL performance, and their current International or Domestic form.

#10: Mumbai Indians – 7.906

It might surprise you to see the quality of overseas players in MIs setup, but still at the Number 10 position. Well, MI does have explosiveness in their overseas players in the form of Archer, Dewald Brevis, Tim David, and Tristan Stubbs. But except for Archer, who didn’t play last year, Brevis, David, and Stubbs are inexperienced, and thus are relatively less rated.

Overall, Mumbai Indians have a cumulative rating of 7.906 based on 8 overseas players. Jofra Archer is MI’s best overseas player with a rating of 9.25. After Archer, we have, Tim David at 8.75, Cameron Green at 8.5, Dewald Brevis at 7.5, and Jason Behrendorff at 7.5. Overall, MI
