IPL 2020 UAE: BCCI Announces the Official Updated Schedule
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to play the tournament opener on September 19th as BCCI announces the official schedule for IPL 2020 to be played in UAE.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier announced the good news for all the IPL fans across the globe, that the hottest T20 league across the globe, the IPL 2020 would run from September 19, 2020 to November 10, 2020, and all matches would be played in UAE with all safety precautions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Owing to logistical and sponsors issues, the BCCI had not announced the schedule immediately. There were also rising tensions due to CSK players and members being tested positive. But, after a thorough study and all that wait, the BCCI has now officially announced the final schedule of IPL 2020 UAE.
As expected, the tournament would begin from 19th September with IPL 2019 champions, Mumbai Indians and runners-up, Chennai Super Kings playing the tournament opener in Abu Dhabi.
Key Changes:
The tournament would run for 53 days (against 57 days for the Indian edition) starting September 19. A total of 60 matches would be played in the tournament including 56 group stage matches, 3 play-offs, and 1 final. The final for IPL 2020 would be played on November 10.
There would be a total of 10 afternoon matches that would be played at 3:30 pm IST (2 pm UAET). The evening matches would begin at 7:30 pm IST (6 pm UAET). Given the place attracts hot weather, it would be a challenge for teams to adapt to the weather; especially the afternoon matches.
Coming to venues, unlike general IPL rules, there won’t be a venue for Home and Away matches. Instead, teams would play all their matches at three locations which include Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. There are a total of 24 matches in Dubai, 20 matches in Abu Dhabi, and 12 matches in Sharjah. The venues for the playoffs and the IPL 2020 final will be announced later.
