IPL 2019: Batting Performance Report Card for First Half

Andre Russell, MS Dhoni among the top players who impressed the most as we find the batting performance report card for the first half of IPL 2019.

The first half of IPL 2019 saw some extraordinary power hitting from Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, etc., some consistent batting display by David Warner, KL Rahul, MS Dhoni, and some superb individual performances.

A total of 28 matches were played in the first half, and coming up with the batting performance report card was a gigantic task.  How tedious the task may be, analyzing the performances of all the batsmen is fun in itself.

METHODOLOGY:

We have analyzed the batting performances basis the batting points considered from the overall aspect of the game such as runs scored, acceleration bonus, consistency points, number of fours & sixes and the man of the match points.

To leave out the biases and perceptions, we have kept things simple by comparing the overall performance rating of all the batsmen to find the batting performance report card for the first half of IPL 2019.

Right then, let’s look at the batting performance of the top five batsmen from the first half of IPL 2019.

#5: MS DHONI

7 Mat | 5 Inns | 214 Runs | 107 Avg. | 127.38 SR.

Batting Points: 450 | Performance Rating: 7.20

The champion batsman, and easily the best batsman of CSK in IPL 2019 had a fantastic tournament till now. His batting average of 107 is the best among all the batsmen in IPL 2019. This shows how difficult it has been for the bowlers to get him out.

In the 5 innings he has played, MS Dhoni has scored a total of 214 runs at an average of 107 and a strike rate of 127.38. The strike rate seems to be less, but that is because CSK have played the majority of their matches on slow and sluggish Chennai pitches.

His highlight was the 2 match-winning innings against Rajasthan Royals. His best knock has been the scintillating 75*(46) with 4 fours and 4 sixes. In that match, he smashed a total of 37 runs of his last 12 deliveries.

MS Dhoni has come to CSK’s rescue for more than one occasion, and his consistency makes him stand out among the other batsmen.

For his splendid batting in tough situations, MS Dhoni gets a performance rating of 7.2 with a total of 450 batting points.

In the last few years, Jonny Bairstow has been a superb player for England. However, scoring a total of 263 runs from 6 innings at an average of 43.83 and a strike rate of 161.34 are tremendous numbers for someone who is having his debut season.
