Batters – Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav & Yashasvi Jaiswal

Starting with the batters, India selected four batters in the T20 series vs Zimbabwe in the form of Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While these four shall also feature in the T20 series vs Sri Lanka, we should also expect the World’s number 1 T20 batter, Suryakumar Yadav to also feature in the squad. Overall, with Rohit and Kohli missing, a lot will be dependent on Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the time being. 

WKs – Rishabh Pant & Sanju Samson

Coming to wicket-keepers, India should continue the same duo of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as we have seen in the 2024 T20 World Cup. So, Dhruv Jurel, who recently made his T20I debut for Team India, may not have added much in the batting department, but did really well as a keeper, will have to sit out. However, there could be a possibility that Team India may want to manage Pant’s workload, and in that case, Dhruv Jurel may get a go again. 

All-rounders – Abhishek Sharma, Axar Patel & Hardik Pandya

Coming to all-rounders, we should finally see the return of Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel in the side Both Axar and Hardik were rested for the Zimbabwe T20 series. But with the Sri Lanka series almost a month away, both will be fresh and raring to go. The main question here shall be who fills the void for Ravindra Jadeja? Well, at this moment, Abhishek Sharma and Washington Sundar are the two names in the picture. But of the two, Abhishek may be preferred more.  

Bowlers – Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar & Ravi Bishnoi

Finally, talking about the bowling department, India won’t take any risk on Jasprit Bumrah, and he should continue to remain rested with the Bangladesh and New Zealand Test series in mind. With Bumrah not there, Siraj may remain on the sidelines due to his ineffectiveness in the T20 format. In addition, Mohammed Shami and Mayank Yadav may need more time to recover, hence, both shall remain absent for the Sri Lanka tour. 

So, we should see the return of Arshdeep Singh as the leading pacer with good support from Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan. Kuldeep Yadav shall also return to lead the spin department, and Ravi Bishnoi should overpower Yuzvendra Chahal to become the second-best spinner in the squad. So, overall, India should go ahead with 3 pacers + 2 spinners combination with the other three bowlers being all-rounders.
