India vs SA 2022: Official T20 Series Squad Players List for Team India

Rishabh Pant to lead whereas Hardik Pandya to be his deputy as we look at the official squad players list for Team India for the 2022 T20 series vs South Africa. 

Please note, the article has been updated after KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav were officially ruled out of the T20 series following an injury. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday, May 22 announced the official squad for Team India for the T20 series vs South Africa and the fifth Test match vs England. Almost two parallel squads have been picked to play the two formats except for a couple of overlaps. 

As expected, a lot of senior players have been rested on account of workload management and the upcoming Test match vs England. The ones that would miss the T20I series on account of the Test match include Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur. Whereas Suryakumar Yadav and KL Ragul are ruled out on account of injury.

With a lot of senior players being rested, BCCI has given the opportunity to many young and potential youngsters. Umran Malik, the fastest bowler in India currently has been selected for the first time. Whereas the ones that were a part of the previous series vs West Indies, and selected again include Arshdeep Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Deepak Hooda, and Venkatesh Iyer.

Comeback Man Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik, the best Indian finisher of IPL 2022 was able to impress the selectors, and thus makes a comeback in the squad. Karthik, who is currently 36, is the oldest player in the squad. If one remembers, Dinesh Karthik had debuted before MS Dhoni, but is still available to play even after Dhoni’s retirement.  

Rishabh Pant will captain the T20 series squad in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Whereas Hardik Pandya shall be his deputy. If we recall the previous encounter when KL Rahul captained the ODI team during the tour of South Africa, India brutally lost the series 0-3.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul will be leading the LSG side against RCB in Eliminator 1 of IPL. According to the leading website, Betway, LSG has a winning odds of 1.90 for this match. Nevertheless, here’s the complete official squad players list for Team India for the 2022 T20 series vs SA.

Meanwhile, for the single Test match vs England which will be played from 1-5 July, Cheteshwar Pujara makes a comeback on account of the outstanding County season earlier this year in England.

Unfortunately, Mayank Agarwal had to be left out to accommodate Cheteshwar Pujara. So, here’s the squad for Team India for the fifth Test match vs England which will be played from July 1-5 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
