The 3-match ODI series will be the last ODI series for Team India before they head to Champions Trophy 2025. Opposite them will be the England side, whose players so far have been sitting ducks against the Indian spin attack.
Similar to T20Is, India have a stunning record against England in ODIs. Of the 85 ODIs these two teams have played, India have won 48, while losing only 32. Given India’s strength on paper, the England team feels no match to them. The best they could have done was win the T20 series, but 50 overs seems too much for this below-par England team. The ODI team currently is completely different from the one that we saw in the T20 series. It’s as it India were playing an A team in the T20Is, and will play a B team in the ODIs. Given such drastic change in the ODI Squad, we should see a revamped playing 11 for the ODIs, and this should also reflect the playing 11 that we will also see in Champions Trophy 2025.
Starting with the batters, India have a settled batting combination till number 5 position. The opening combination should see Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli should continue to play at his regular number 3 position, and at 4 and 5, we should see Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. This has been the batting order for India in the 2023 World Cup too, and it will continue for the Champions Trophy 2025.
For the All-rounders and finishers, India are likely to select three names, and those are Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. India have always believed to have batting depth in the side, and the ODI side should be no different. While Hardik should play at the number 6 position, Axar or Jadeja will be more flexible depending on the need of the side.
Finally, for the bowling lineup, India will be without their premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is not available with the team for the first two ODIs. Hence, in Bumrah’s place, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami should lead the pace attack, and Kuldeep Yadav should lead the spin attack. So, these three bowlers + 3 all-rounders should be the bowling combination for Team India.

For the finishing role, we should see Liam Livingstone and Jamie Overton.
