Ahead of Team India’s first Test match between India and England, there has been news spreading around that KL Rahul won’t be keeping in the Test matches, and instead, a specialist keeper between KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel will be keeping. If it’s true, this move will let KL Rahul play as a specialist batter, and if and when Rishabh Pant is back, he will anyway donn the wicket-keeping duties ahead of anyone.
With KL Rahul playing as a specialist batter, unfortunately, Shreyas Iyer is the only name in the team that will have to keep out. It’s really unfortunate for Shreyas, who has been really good on Indian pitches, but to accommodate a wicket-keeper and KL Rahul, he will have to miss out. There’s one more option for India to play Shreyas Iyer 3 in place of Shubman Gill. But that move looks unlikely for now.
Aside from the above change, Team India are most-likely to play 3 spinners and 2 pacers for the first Test match. While spinners should comprise Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel, the pacers should comprise Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. India can also think of playing Mukesh Kumar in place of Axar Patel. But that move looks unlikely for 1st Test match.
Overall, for India, a lot will be expected from Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill. With Indian conditions in place, these guys will get the maximum opportunities to do well. All three are quality batters, and can play long innings. Similarly, England will be lurking the RR threat. Both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are monsters on Indian pitches, and India would want them to continue their form.
