India vs Bangladesh 1st Test 2024 Confirmed Playing 11 for Both

Rohit Sharma makes a comeback to lead as we look at the India vs Bangladesh 2024 1st Test match best playing 11 for both teams.

In what will be the return of Test cricket at home for Team India after a gap of almost 7 months, Bangladesh are touring India for a 2-match Test and 3-match T20 series starting September 19. The Test series, which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship will feature India and Bangladesh playing two Test matches with one being in Chennai, and the other match being played in Kanpur.

Historically, Bangladesh have never beaten India in a Test match. Overall, India have a healthy 11-0 record over Bangladesh in Test matches with two matches ending in a Draw. The last time India drew a Test match vs Bangladesh was almost a decade back in 2015. The recent Bangladesh Test series saw Team India defeating Bangladesh 2-0 away from home. That was a fine tour where Shubman Gill scored a century, and Kuldeep stood out in the bowling.

The Bangladesh tour now begins with the Chennai Test match, and with India playing a full-strength squad, it doesn’t look like Bangladesh will give a tough fight to the Indian team even after their historic Test series win vs Pakistan. Overall, India’s biggest challenge will be to adapt to Test cricket after playing 7 months of nonstop limited-overs cricket. So, as we wait for the match to begin, let’s in the meantime look at the best predicted playing 11 for India vs Bangladesh 1st Test match 2024

India vs Ban 2024 Key Match Details:

India vs Bangladesh 2024 Official Test Squad and Players List:

Batters: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma (c), Sarfaraz Khan, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli & Yashasvi Jaiswal

WKs: Dhruv Jurel & Rishabh Pant

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja & Ravichandran Ashwin

Bowlers: Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj & Yash Dayal

Team India will play with the same top-order that played against England. So, expect Rohit Sharma and Yashasi Jaiswal to open the batting with Shubman Gill at the number position. But the middle-order should change with the return of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. While Virat was out of the England tour due to parental responsibilities, KL Rahul was out due to injury. In their absence, India played Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal, and both did well. But with senior guys returning, Sarfaraz will unfortunately have to make way for them.

The biggest dilemma that the Indian team will face is whether to go with 2 pacers or 4 spinners, and if 3 spinners, which one among Kuldeep and Axar should it be? Well, for starters, the match is in Chennai, so barring a few overs with the new ball, the role of a second spinner will be quite limited. So, it is as good as not being there in the team. But a second pacer like Siraj will get a good game time keeping in mind the Australia tour.

So, expect India to go ahead with a 2 pacers + 3 spinners combination with Mohammed Siraj being the second pacer and Jasprit Bumrah being the primary pacer. But between Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, the team will more likely tilt towards Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep has become a gun bowler in all formats now. With Rishabh Pant back in the team to strengthen the lower-order, an attacking bowler like Kuldeep will add more value than Axar Patel.

For Bangladesh, the playing 11 should be quite similar to the one that we saw against Pakistan recently. The only change that Bangladesh could make is to bring in an extra spinner for a pacer with the Chennai pitch assisting spinners. So, with the same batting lineup as mentioned below, Bangladesh may bring in Taijul Islam as a specialist spinner complementing two pacers, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud.
