India vs Ban T20 Squad 2024 – Complete Players List Inside
Key Test players rested in the official squad and players list for the India vs Bangladesh (Ban) 2024 T20 series as announced by BCCI.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday, September 29 officially announced Team India’s squad for the T20 series vs Bangladesh. Post the 2-match Test series vs Bangladesh, India will be playing Bangladesh for a 3-match T20 series. The T20 series starts on October 6th, and concludes on October 12th. It is nicely sandwiched between the India vs Ban and India vs New Zealand Test series.
Given the T20 series is sandwiched between two important Test series, which is also a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025, Team India have rested all their Test-playing players. So, aside from Rohit and Virat, who are already retired, the T20 series will be without the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, and Rishabh Pant.
With a lot of key players missing, Team India have selected quite a young squad with three debutants also in the squad. BCCI has selected a total of 15 players, which is now becoming a standard across all series. The T20 squad shall be led by Suryakumar Yadav, who has succeeded Rohit Sharma in terms of Captaincy. Overall, the squad sees only two front-line batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 6 all-rounders, and 5 bowlers.
India vs Bangladesh T20 Squad 2024 Decoded:
Among frontline batters, India have selected only Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav. This is a slight surprise as India have weighed more on playing all-rounders and wicket-keepers in the side. Also, it is surprising to see India not playing Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has had great success in T20Is for India. The only reason for Ruturaj’s exclusion must be his involvement in Irani Cup as players playing in that Cup are actually not a part of the T20 squad.
Among the wicket-keepers, India decided to continue with Sanju Samson. But for the second wicket-keeper slot, India decide to leave out Ishan Kishan, and Instead decided to play Jitesh Sharma. This is a surprise as Kishan was almost sure of getting the selection. Meanwhile, India are without Rishabh Pant and Dhurv Jurel for the T20 series as both are a part of the Test squad.
Talking about all-rounders, India have as many six options in the side in the form of Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar. This is fantastic news for the Indian team, which has always been short of all-rounders on the side. Nitish Reddy gets a maiden call-up as the All-rounder. Whereas the likes of Abhishek and Dube will mostly play as pure batters, or at best bowl 1-2 overs.
The bowling department shall see two new bowlers in the form of Harshit Rana and Mayank Yadav. While Mayank was always projected to play if he was fit, Harshit Rana getting a call ahead of regulars Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mukesh Kumar is an interesting call. Other than Rana and Mayank, the team will see the return of Varun Chakravarthy, who has been rewarded for his consistent performance in the IPL.
