India vs Australia 2023: 1st ODI Mumbai Best Predicted Playing 11
Virat Kohli vs Aussies in focus as we look at the confirmed playing 11 for the 2023 India vs Australia 1st ODI.
Team India have started the 2023 home series vs Australia with a bang. For the fourth consecutive time, India have defeated Australia 2-1 in the Test series. It started with the home series in India in 2017, then 2 Successive Away Test series win, and finally the 2023 home Test series with a 2-1 win. It has been a dominant performance from Team India, who will now face Australia in the WTC Final.
But with the Test series done and dusted, the focus now shifts to the most important format of the year, the ODIs. In what can be called a dress rehearsal for the ODI World Cup 2023, India and Australia will be playing the 3-match ODI series starting March 17. The first match will be played in Mumbai before the action shifts to Vizag, and then Chennai.
In terms of the team composition, India would be without a lot of star players, who would have ideally made it to the playing 11. This includes Rishabh Pant, who met with an accident a few months back. Then there’s Jasprit Bumrah, who is recovering from a back injury. Finally, Shreyas Iyer, who was only recently injured in the 4th Test match vs Australia.
So, with so many players missing, what could be the strongest playing 11 that the Team Can adopt? Well, let’s find both teams best predicted playing 11 for India vs Australia 1st ODI 2023. Before that, let’s look at the official squad for both the teams, and key match details.

Team India’s Predicted Playing 11
Batters
The opening combination for Team India seems to reach a settled stage now. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have been opening together for some time now, and they have done a brilliant job. However, with Rohit Sharma not available for the first ODI due to personal reasons, Ishan Kishan should take his place as the opener.
With the absence of Shreyas Iyer, the middle order will make for an interesting selection. Virat Kohli at 3 and Wicket-keeper KL Rahul at 5 are automatic selections for their respective position. With Pant not there, KL will once again have to play the role of the wicket-keeper. But, India would have to look for a replacement of Shreyas Iyer.
If we look at the current batting setup, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are the only replacement options for India. But with Kishan mostly playing a backup opener role, India would want to give Suryakumar Yadav an opportunity to make a mark in ODIs as well. SKY has been in terrific form in T20Is, and it is only a matter of time before he comes good in ODIs as well.
All-rounders
Coming to the all-rounders, we should finally see the return of Ravindra Jadeja in the ODI format. Jadeja has been out of action in ODIs for a few months now. In his absence, Axar Patel had done a more than decent job. But with Jadeja coming back, it is natural that the backup Axar Patel is rested. Jadeja Long with Hardik form for the best all-rounder duo that India have.
Bowlers
Finally, for the bowling, India would mostly select 3 pacers and 1 spin combination as Wankhede pitch assists pace more. With Jasprit Bumrah not there, India would go with Shardul Thakur as the third-pace Choice alongside Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. However, for raw pace, India may adopt for Umra Malik as well.
For the spin attack, India have persisted with Kuldeep Yadav ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal for the last few matches. With Kuldeep giving good returns, expect India to keep Kuldeep ahead of Chahar on the spin bowling order. However, if the other pitches does assist spin, India should play the KulCha combination with Shardul missing out.
