India vs Bangladesh 2024 1st Test Complete New Squad List

Jasprit Bumrah isn’t rested from the squad as BCCI announce the complete new India vs Bangladesh 2024 1st Test series players list.  

8 months since the Indian team last played a Test match. But the wait is finally over as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the official squad for the Indian team for the 2024 Test series vs Bangladesh. The Bangladesh team will be touring India for a 2-match Test series. The first Test match shall be played in Chennai from Sep 19 to Sep 24. Whereas the second Test match shall be played in Kanpur from October 1st to October 5th, 2024.

While the squad has been announced, there is an asterisk mark over there. Interestingly, the BCCI has only announced the squad only for the first Test match. A total of 16 players have been selected by BCCI with Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the squad, and no Vice captain being announced. The squad contains a total of 6 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 3 all-rounders, and 5 bowlers.

Seeing the squad, one can safely say this is the squad of comebacks. If one has seen the last squad in the Test series vs England, the team was without a lot of senior players. Rishabh Pant was out due to accident recovery, Virat Kohli was out due to parental duties, and Mohammed Shami and KL Rahul were out due to injury. However, of the four players, only Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul are back in the squad. Mohammed Shami is still injured, and will probably need a couple of months to recover. 

Team India Complete Squad for Test Series vs Bangladesh:

If we talk about the players who have been left out of the Bangladesh Test series, the list includes Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat, Washington Sundar, and Mukesh Kumar. While Rajat and KS Bharat were obvious exclusions, it’s quite interesting to see Padikkal being left out after having a good performance in the England series. Shreyas and Sundar don’t look too optimistic when it comes to their test career.

From the new squad, there are two new players who have been added to the squad. While Bumrah and Siraj will lead the pace bowling duties, the team will also see two new pacers, Akash Deep and Yash Dayal. Both Akash Deep and Yash Dayal are superb pace bowlers, and have also impressed in the recent Duleep Trophy too. What’s more, both play for RCB in the Indian Premier League, and three of the four pacers now belong to RCB camp. 

Overall, Rohit, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz, Gill, Kohli, and Jaiswal will be the primary batters for Team India. Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant shall be the wicket-keepers. Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja shall be the spin all-rounders. Whereas Bumrah, Kuldeep, Akash, Siraj, and Dayal shall be the primary bowlers in the side. With matches being played in Chennai and Kanpur, spinners will once again be in focus.
