The 2025 season for the Indian team will begin with the England Tour of India for the 5-match T20 and 3-match ODI series. Ever since Rohit Sharma retired from T20 cricket, India have been playing with split captaincy with Suryakumar Yadav Captaining the T20Is, and Rohit Sharma captaining the ODIs and Tests. The England series will witness the same setup as both these players will lead the individual formats for the team.
While One Day Internationals will be in focus for the time being with Champions Trophy 2025 scheduled just after the England tour, the 5-match T20 series will carry equal importance given most of the players selected for the series won’t be a part of ODI series setup. The team has also been seeing many first-choice Test match players not able to play T20Is due to timing issues. But will we see India playing a full-fledged squad for the England T20 series?
Well, Team India should ideally play a full-fledged squad with only a couple of first-choice not available. If Test squad players make their way into the T20 side, we should see some drastic changes in the squad that played against South Africa recently. So, considering the best-case scenario, let’s look at the best possible squad list for Team India for India vs England 2025 T20 series.
India vs England T20 Squad 2025 Explained:
If we start with the openers, the team should see one major change. Since Yashasvi Jaiswal isn’t a part of the ODI setup for now, he should make his way back in the T20 side for the England series. But if Yashasvi Jaiswal gets selected, Abhishek Sharma, who hasn’t done so well in T20Is should make way for him. Thus, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson should be the two first-choice openers for Team India.
With two openers decided, if we talk about the other batters in the side, the team should stick to Captain Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Rishabh Pant among wicket keeper. Tilak did exceptionally well against South Africa, so should get selected without a doubt. Whereas for wicket-keeper role, Rishabh Pant should be back in place of Jitesh Sharma. If Pant isn’t included, Jitesh should continue with the team.
Coming to all-rounders, Team India should select as many as 5 names in the side. From the pace all-rounders point of view, Team India should select Hardik Pandya and Nitish Reddy. Whereas from the spin all-rounders point of view, India should select Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Riyan Parag. It’s a great mix of all-rounders for Team India, and it provides great flexibility to the team to have good bowling options along with batting depth.
Bowlers?
Talking about spinners, Team India should stick to two front-line spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy. Both have done well in the recently played series, and there is no reason why they should be dropped. However, it will be interesting to see if Kuldeep Yadav makes a comeback too. Kuldeep has not been in T20I setup since the 2024 T20 World Cup. So, ideally should not be a part of the squad. However, if he gets selected, Ravi Bishnoi is the one who should make way for him.
Talking about pacers, India should select three names in the squad. While Jasprit Bumrah’s return will make the team stronger, it looks unlikely Bumrah will be selected. After a grueling Test series, India may want to rest Bumrah before he back for the ODI series. Overall, expect India to stick to Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Mayank Yadav among pacers.
