IPL 2011-2025 Delhi Capitals Retained Players List in Mega Auction

Rishabh Pant among the most selected in our complete full retained players list for Delhi Capitals (DC) from IPL 2011 to 2025 Mega Auction.

When we talk about Delhi Capitals, we are talking about a team that is yet to get their hands on the IPL trophy. It’s been 17 seasons for Delhi Capitals, but not once have they managed to finish as the champions. Also, in these 17 years, only once did the Delhi Capitals play the final, and they finished in the Playoffs five times. So, that makes a combined Playoffs success ratio of around 35%.

The recently conducted IPL 2024 saw Delhi finishing in 6th position under the leadership of Rishabh Pant. Also, Delhi Capitals have not been able to qualify for the Playoffs since the last Mega Auction in 2022. But as we move to 2025, Delhi Capitals will once again get the opportunity to amend their playing ways and players. Barring a few players that they will retain, Delhi Capitals can build a completely new squad.

But Mega Auctions are always a challenge as teams don’t have the luxury to retain as many players as they do in a Mini Auction. It will be very interesting to see how Delhi Capitals go about retaining the players for IPL 2025. But before we get to that, let’s look at the complete retained players list for Delhi Capitals that they have been successfully able to retain in every Mega Auction since IPL 2011.

IPL 2011 to 2025: Delhi Capitals Retained Players List in Each Mega Auction

IPL 2011 – Delhi Capitals Full Retained Players List

  1. Virender Sehwag

Delhi Capitals (Formerly Delhi Daredevils) had started their campaign in 2008 under the leadership of Virender Sehwag. The team finished 4th in IPL 2008, 1st in 2009, and 5th in 2010, but even after doing decently well, Delhi didn’t find confidence in any of its players. Hence, Virender Sehwag was the only player from Delhi Capitals that they retained. This is when Delhi had the likes of Gautam Gambhir, AB de Villiers, David Warner, Ashish Nehra, and Amit Mishra as potential retentions.

IPL 2014 – Delhi Capitals Full Retained Players List

  1. None

After building a completely new squad under Virender Sehwag in 2011, Delhi finished 10th in 2011, 3rd in 2012, and 9th in 2013. After another two successful attempts at the trophy, Delhi once again planned to restart, and unlike 2011 where they retained only Virender Sehwag, Delhi Capitals retained zero players in IPL 2014. Delhi had players like Virender Sehwag, David Warner, Andre Russell, Irfan Pathan, Ashish Nehra, and Morne Morkel, but the team decided to start afresh for IPL 2014.

IPL 2018 – Delhi Capitals Full Retained Players List

  1. Rishabh Pant
  2. Chris Morris
  3. Shreyas Iyer

The year is 2018, and one can say this was the beginning of a fresh and new era for Delhi Capitals. After a gap of four years, IPL had a Mega Auction in 2018, and for that Delhi Capitals decided to retain Rishabh Pant, Chris Morris, and Shreyas Iyer. The last four years from 2014 to 2017 were again unsuccessful attempts at the trophy as the team finished 8th, 7th, 6th, and 6th respectively. Aside from these players, Delhi could have retained Sanju Samson or Mohammed Shami, but they went against that.

IPL 2022 – Delhi Capitals Full Retained Players List

  1. Rishabh Pant
  2. Axar Patel
  3. Prithvi Shaw
  4. Anrich Nortje

Moving on to 2022, Delhi Capitals finally managed to play their first final in 2019 under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. But with Pant’s rising popularity, Delhi Capitals released Shreyas Iyer ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, and made Rishabh Pant, the Captain. Alongside Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals retained Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje. The team utilized the complete quota of 4 players, but the story remained the same for Delhi Capitals from 2022 to 2024 as they finished 5th, 9th, and 6th respectively.

Now, talking about the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Delhi Capitals will once again build their team around Rishabh Pant, who has now become their leader and key player. Alongside Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals should retain the likes of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Tristan Stubbs. Unfortunately, Delhi Capitals may let go of Prithvi Shaw, and for more than four players, Delhi will have the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Jake Fraser-McGurk in sight for retention.
