India vs Australia 2023 1st T20 Best Playing 11 for Both
Captain Suryakumar Yadav in focus as we look at India vs Australia 1st 2023 T20 confirmed playing 11 for both Teams.
It’s been only a couple of days since Team India’s unforgettable loss at the 2023 World Cup final, and we are already back in business with a new challenge in front of us. It’s the same two teams, India and Australia as they take on each other in a 5-match T20 series which will act as a prelude to the T20 World Cup 2024.
While India had a senior team playing the 2023 ODI World Cup, the T20 series will be played with a new team and leader. Plenty of new faces will take on the fresh challenge with Suryakumar Yadav at the helm in the absence of Hardik Pandya. However, Australia aren’t a completely revamped side with most of the ODI players also playing the T20 series.
The 5-match T20 series begins on November 23 at Vizag. Unlike ODIs where we know what the playing 11 will look like, the T20s bring fresh faces to the table. Hence, the biggest question for both teams will be to select their playing 11. So, as we wait for the matches to begin, let’s look at the best playing 11 for India vs Australia 2023 1st T20. Before that, let’s look at both teams’ key match details and official squad.
Match Details:
Tournament: Australia Tour of India 2023

When: November 23, 7 pm IST
India vs Australia 2023 – Official Squad List for the Indian Team:

WKs: Ishan Kishan & Jitesh Sharma
All-rounders: Axar Patel, Shivam Dube & Washington Sundar
Bowlers: Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna & Ravi Bishnoi
Team India’s Playing 11
The last time India played a T20 match was at the Asian Games in Hangzhou and the India vs Ireland 2023 series. India played an almost identical squad over there with a few minor changes. If we take cues from those matches, we should see Team India opening with Vice Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and dynamic Yashasvi Jaiswal.
With Suryakumar Yadav back in the side, we should see SKY at 3, and Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh being pushed to number 4 and 5 respectively. Ideally, Ishan Kishan should have played as the first-choice wicket-keeper. But with the opening position already taken, we should see Jitesh Sharma being preferred above him as the finisher WK of the squad.
With the top 6 almost fixed, the next question is the selection of the all-rounders. Vizag offers good assistance to pacers, so we should see India going with 3 frontline pacers. In that case, it looks unlikely India will play 3 spinners, and hence Shivam Dube could miss out, and Axar Patel should play as the leading All-rounder. Meanwhile, for the three pacers, India will mostly go ahead with Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Prasidh Krishna.
The other big headache India shall be to select one between Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi. Now both are different types of players. While Sundar brings a complimentary factor to Axar Patel with his off-spin and also adds batting depth, Bishnoi is a wicket-taker, and difficult to leave out. However, had Axar not been there, Bishnoi’s selection would have been perfect. But with Axar there, Sundar becomes a good valuable option.

Australia’s Playing 11
Selecting the best playing 11 for Australia, David Warner has withdrawn, so in his absence, we should see Matthew Short opening the batting alongside Travis Head. Steve Smith should take his number 3 position, and Glenn Maxwell should add good fire in the middle-order. Meanwhile, Captain Matthew Wade should play at 5 or 6 depending on the match situation.
Similarly, Marcus Stoinis and Tim David shall fluctuate in the batting-order depending upon the match situation. So, with the top 7 almost fixed, Australia will then go ahead with a 3 pacers + 1 spin combination as they usually do. With Adam Zampa handling the spin duties, the pace duties shall be led by Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, and Jason Behrendorff.
