Mumbai Indians to retain the most as we look at the best predicted retained squad players list for all 10 teams for IPL 2023.

The Indian Premier League 2023 may be almost 5 months away, but its buzz never fades away. The official date for the 2023 IPL Auction was recently announced. It will take place on December 23 in Kochi. With a month to go for the Auction, all 10 teams are currently planning their player retentions ahead of the November 15 deadline as set by BCCI. 

Unlike the 2022 IPL Auction, the IPL 2023 Auction won’t be a major affair. Last year, the teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players last year, but in the 2023 IPL Auction, there won’t be any such restriction. Also, as compared to last year, teams shall be getting an additional 5 crores to spend; thus a total of INR 95 crores. 

With the deadline for player retention close approaching, let’s analyze all the squad players and the budget for all 10 teams. Let’s find out the players that teams shall release and retain ahead of the deadline. Here’s the best predicted retained squad players list for all 10 teams ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction. 

#1: Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings shall mostly retain their core. MS Dhoni shall continue to remain as the captain with Ravindra Jadeja as his deputy. However, they could let go of Ambati Rayudu, Chris Jordan, Robin Uthappa, and Subranshu Senapati. Overall, CSK are expected to retain a total of 7 overseas players, and they would have around INR 22 crores to purchase 4 more players.

Total Players: 21 // Purse Remaining: ~INR 22 Crores

Batters: C Hari Nishaanth & Ruturaj Gaikwad

WKs: Devon Conway, MS Dhoni (C) & N Jagadeesan

All-rounders: Bhagath Varma, Dwaine Pretorious, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja & Shivam Dube

Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Mukesh Chaudhary, Maheesha Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Prashant Solanki, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Simarjeet Singh & Tushar Deshpande

#2: Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals are expected to retain a total of 20 players including 7 overseas players. The team will let go of Lungi Ngidi, Mandeep Singh, Pravin Dubey, and expensive Shardul Thakur. The team mostly has all their bases covered, but would still look to spend INR 17.95 crores on an overseas player and a few good Indian batters.

Batters: Ashwin Hebbar, David Warner, Prithvi Shaw & Sarfaraz Khan

WKs: KS Bharat, Rishabh Pant & Tim Seifert 

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Lalit Yadav, Ripal Patel, Rovman Powell & Yash Dhull 

Bowlers: Anrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, & Vicky Ostwal

#3: Gujarat Titans

The IPL 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans will mostly look to have a similar squad that played for them in 2022; except for a few redundant players. The team will not retain the likes of Vijay Shankar, Pradeep Sangwan, Varun Aaron, Gurkeerat Singh, Dominic Drakes, and Noor Ahmad. Instead, the team will look to invest in fresh Indian blood.

Total Players: 15 // Purse Remaining: ~INR 21.15 Crores

Batters: Abhinav Manohar, David Miller & Shubman Gill

WKs: Matthew Wade & Wriddhiman Saha

All-rounders: Alzarri Joseph, B Sai Sudharshan, Darshan Nalkande, Hardik Pandya (C), Jayant Yadav & Rahul Tewatia 

Bowlers: Mohammed Shami, R Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan & Yash Dayal

#4: Kolkata Knight Riders

For Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL 2022 wasn’t a positive affair having seventh in the points table. They are expected to retain only three overseas and 11 Indian players. The team will leave out the expensive Shivam Mavi, who was poor last year. With approximately INR 6 crores left, they will look to revamp their squad by making a few good purchases. 

Traded Players: Lockie Fersgon (From GT) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (From GT)

Total Players: 16 // Purse Remaining: ~INR 6.05 Crores

Batters: Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh & Shreyas Iyer

WKs: Baba Indrajith, Rahmanullah Gurbaz & Sheldon Jackson

All-rounders: Aman Khan, Andre Russell, Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine & Venkatesh Iyer

Bowlers: Lockie Ferguson, Pat Cummins, Rasikh Salam Dar, Umesh Yadav & Varun Chakravarthy

#5: Lucknow Super Giants

Similar to Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants will retain their core, and leave out a few not-so-good players. LSG will mostly leave out the expensive players, Avesh Khan and Jason Holder, and look to buy them in the auction again at a lower price. Overall, LSG shall retain 15 players including six overseas players, and will be left with INR 29.25 Crores in the auction.

Total Players: 15 // Purse Remaining: ~INR 29.25 Crores

Batters: Ayush Badoni, Evin Lewis & Manan Vohra

WKs: KL Rahul (C) & Quinton de Kock

All-rounders: Deepak Hooda, Krishnappa Gowtham, Krunal Pandya, Kyle Mayers & Marcus Stoinis

Bowlers: Dushmantha Chameera, Mark Wood, Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi & Shahbaaz Nadeem

#6: Mumbai Indians

Even as Mumbai Indians finished last, last season, they will retain the maximum number of players, 22. The only players they are expected to leave out include Tymal Mills, Kieron Pollard, Riley Meredith, and Fabien Allen. With space left for 3 more overseas players, Mumbai Indians will have roughly INR 14.6 crores in their kitty.

#7: Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings had a good IPL 2022 Auction, but they finished sixth in the points table. The team will retain its core, but will leave out a few expensive players. The team is expected to retain a total of 17 players including 5 overseas players.

Shikhar Dhawan was announced as the captain of the Punjab Kings for IPL 2023. It is understood that Punjab are expected to release the expensive Mayank Agarwal. In addition, they will leave out the likes of expensive players, Shahrukh Khan and Odean Smith. Overall, Punjab Kings will get INR 38.95 crores to purchase 8 more players.

Batters: Prerak Mankad & Shikhar Dhawan (C)

WKs: Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma, Jonny Bairstow & Prabsimran Singh

All-rounders: Harpreet Brar, Liam Livingstone, Raj Bawa, Rishi Dhawan, Vaibhav Arora & Writtick Chatterjee

Bowlers: Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Porel, Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis & Rahul Chahar

#8: Rajasthan Royals

For Rajasthan Royals, expect minimal changes in the squad. They are expected to retain a total of 18 players including 6 overseas players. They will mostly let go of not-so-good players like Anunay Singh, Karun Nair, and Rassie van-der Dussen, which will leave them with 2 more overseas spots. With INR 10.95 crores in the kitty, Rajasthan Royals can focus on getting a good Indian player in the auction.

All-rounders: Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham & Ravichandran Ashwin

#9: Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore shall be one team that will mostly retain all their players, and may or may not leave out the 2 players, Karn Sharma and Sherfane Rutherford. They will have only INR 8 crores in their kitty, and they can use that to get another solid overseas player or an Indian player.

Total Players: 19 // Purse Remaining: ~INR 8.80 Crores

Batters: Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Suyash Prabhudessai & Virat Kohli

WKs: Anuj Rawat, Dinesh Karthik, Finn Allen & Luvnith Sisodia

All-rounders: David Willey, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed & Wanindu Hasaranga

Bowlers: Akash Deep, Chama Milind, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj & Siddharth Kaul

#10: Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad will mostly retain 18 players including. Their strategy would be to get rid of the overseas players like Romario Shephard and Sean Abbott, and instead look for fresh names in the auction. With this move, SRH will be having approximately INR 16 crores in their kitty, and a space for 7 players.

Batters: Aiden Markram, Kane Williamson (C), Priyam Garg & Rahul Tripathi

All-rounders: Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Glenn Philips, Marco Jansen, Shashank Singh & Washington Sundar

Bowlers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jagadeesha Suchith, Kartik Tyagi, Shreyas Gopal, T Natarajan & Umran Malik

So, that’s about the best predicted retained squad players list for all 10 teams for IPL 2023. Given that it is going to be a mini-auction, teams will be more prudent in releasing their players.
