IPL 2021: Player Replacements and Squad List for all the Teams

Amidst the pandemic, the first phase of IPL 2021 ended almost at the halfway stage with 29 matches being completed. This was 3 months back when the tournament was scheduled in India. Since then a lot has happened in the world. While COVID cases were on the rise, IPL 2021 was postponed to later this year in September. 

After thorough planning, the BCCI decided to conduct the second leg of IPL 2021 in the UAE. The tournament would now start on September 19, and would conclude on October 15; a few days before the commencement of the T20 World Cup 2021. All 31 matches would be played at three destinations in UAE, which are Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. 

While the return of IPL 2021 in the UAE is definitely good news, it is not so good for a franchise, that is losing a few key players due to the pandemic. So, as we move into the second leg of IPL 2021, what are the key changes that are visible in all the teams? Let’s find out the final squad list for all the teams for IPL 2021 in UAE. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Total Squad Strength: 25

Chennai Super Kings’ major challenge was the availability of their star pacer, Josh Hazlewood. But in the form of Happy news, CSK confirmed the news that their star player is available for the second leg. This is a big boost as Hazlewood can add a lot of value to UAE pitches as seen from IPL 2020. 

IPL 2021 UAE Final Squad for Chennai Super Kings (CSK):

Batsmen: Ambati Rayudu, Cheteshwar Pujara, CH Nishaanth, Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni (C&WK), N Jagadeesan (WK), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa (WK), and Suresh Raina

All-rounders: Dwayne Bravo, Bhagat Varma, Krishnappa Gowtham, Mitchell Santner, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran

Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Harishankar Reddy, Imran Tahir, Josh Hazlewood, Karn Sharma, KM Asif, Lungi Ngidi, R Sai Kishore, and Shardul Thakur

Delhi Capitals (DC)

Total Squad Strength: 25

Newly Played Added: Ben Dwarshuis and Kulwant Kejroliya

Just like CSK, Delhi Capitals’ biggest challenge was the availability of their former Captain, Shreyas Iyer. As we know, Iyer missed the first leg of IPL 2021 due to injury concerns. But he is now fit and healthy to play the second half. Apart from him, Delhi Capitals had all their players available for the second leg of IPL 2021 in UAE, but Chris Woakes made himself unavailable.

Delhi Capitals have roped in Ben Dwarshuis as Chris Woakes’s replacement. In addition, Delhi Capitals are yet to decide on their captain. Delhi Capitals recently announced Kulwant Kejroliya as the replacement for injured M Siddharth. 

IPL 2021 UAE Final Squad for Delhi Capitals (DC):

Batsmen: Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sam Billings (WK), Shikhar Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer, Shreyas Iyer, Steve Smith, and Vishnu Vinod (WK)

All-rounders:  Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ripal Patel, and Tom Curran

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Total Squad Strength: 25

Newly Added: Tim Southee 

KKR faced a shocker when Pat Cummins, their first-choice pacer decided to not participate in the second leg. This was a big shocker for the team, and to compensate for that, KKR roped in Tim Southee, who is currently in the form of his life. Apart from this one change, KKR have all their players available for selection.

Batsmen: Dinesh Karthik (WK), Eoin Morgan (C), Karun Nair, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, Rinku Singh, Sheldon Jackson, Shubman Gill, and Tim Seifert

All-rounders: Andre Russell, Ben Cutting, Pawan Negi, Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, and Venkatesh Iyer

Bowlers: Harbhajan Singh, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Lockie Ferguson, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi, Vaibhav Arora, Tim Southee, and Varun Chakravarthy

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Total Squad Strength: 25

Newly Added Players: Roosh Kalaria

Mumbai Indians are one of the only 4 teams to have not made any changes in their squad. All their overseas players are available for selection, and Indian players are fit and raring to go. Having won the IPL 2020 at the same venue, it would be interesting to see what bowling combination MI adopt.

Batsmen: Aditya Tare (WK), Anmolpreet Singh, Chris Lynn, Ishan Kishan (WK), Quinton de Kock (WK), Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Saurabh Tiwary

All-rounders: Anukul Roy, Arjun Tendulkar, Hardik Pandya, James Neesham,  Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, and Krunal Pandya 

Bowlers: Adam Milne, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jasprit Bumrah, Marco Jensen, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Piyush Chawla, Rahul Chahar, Roosh Kalaria, Trent Boult, and Yudhvir Charak

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Total Squad Strength: 25

Newly Added: Aiden Markram, Adil Rashid, and Nathan Ellis

Punjab Kings made two major changes in their squad rooster ahead of IPL 2021 in UAE. The management found the replacement of the two costly overseas pacers, Jyhe Richardson and Riley Meredith. In place of them, PBKS have brought in England’s Adil Rashid and Australia’s Nathan Ellis. 

In addition, Dawid Malan made himself unavailable for IPL 2021. Punjab Kings roped in Aiden Markram.  

IPL 2021 UAE Final Squad for Punjab Kings (PBKS):

Batsmen: Aiden Markram, KL Rahul (C&WK), Mandeep Singh, Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Prabsimran Singh, and Sarfaraz Khan.

All-rounders: Chris Gayle, Darshan Nalkande, Deepak Hooda, Fabien Allen, Harpreet Brar, Jalaj Saxena, Moises Henriques, Saurabh Kumar, Shahrukh Khan, and Utkarsh Singh.

Bowlers: Adil Rashid, Arshdeep Singh, Chris Jordan, Ishan Porel, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin, Nathan Ellis, and Ravi Bishnoi. 

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Total Squad Strength: 24

Newly Added: Glenn Philips, Tabraiz Shami, Oshane Thomas, and Evin Lewis

Rajasthan Royals were the only team to have only 7 overseas players in their squad ahead of the second leg of IPL 2021. But the team recently announced the replacement for Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes in the form of Evin Lewis and Oshane Thomas. Apart from these two, the team made earlier made two more replacements in the form of Glenn Philips and Tabraiz Shamsi for unavailable, Jofra Archer and Andrew Tye.

IPL 2021 UAE Final Squad for Rajasthan Royals (RR) : 

Batsmen: Anuj Rawat (WK), David Miller, Evin Lewis, Glen Philips, Liam Livingstone, Manan Vohra, Sanju Samson (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal

All-rounders: Chris Morris, Mahipal Lomrar, Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, and Shivam Dube.

Bowlers: Akash Singh, Chetan Sakariya, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi, KC Cariappa, Kuldip Yadav, Mayank Markhande, Mustafizur Rahman, Oshane Thomas, Shreyas Gopal, and Tabraiz Shami

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Total Squad Strength: 22

Newly Added: Dushmantha Chameera, George Garton, Tim David, and Wanindu Hasaranga

This is the team that saw the maximum changes in their overseas contingent ahead of the second leg of IPL 2021. RCB made 4 changes in their squad as they brought Dushmantha Chameera, George Garton, Tim David, and Wanindu Hasaranga for Kane Richardson, Finn Allen, Adam Zampa, and Daniel Sam respectively. 

Apart from these 4, Washington Sundar was also ruled out of the Tournament due to finger spinner. As a replacement, RCB roped in Bengal Pacer Akash Deep.

IPL 2021 UAE Final Squad for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Batsmen: Ab de Villiers (WK), Devdutt Padikkal, Glenn Maxwell, KS Bharath, Mohd. Azharuddeen (WK), Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby, Tim David, and Virat Kohli (C).

All-rounders: Daniel Christian, Pavan Deshpande, Shahbaz Ahmad, Suyash Prabhu desai, and Wanindu Hasaranga

Bowlers:  Akash Deep, Dushmantha Chameera, George Garton, Harshal Patel, Kyle Jamieson, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Total Squad Strength: 25

Newly Added: Sherfane Rutherford

IPL 2021 UAE Final Squad for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): 

The last team of the competition alphabetically, and were also the fourth team to have not made any changes in the squad. But Jonny Bairstow made himself unavailable for the second leg of IPL 2021. SRH roped in Sherfane Rutherford in place of him. 

Batsmen:  David Warner, Jason Roy, Kane Williamson (C), Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, Shreevats Goswami (WK), Virat Singh, and Wriddhiman Saha (WK)

All-rounders: Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Jason Holder, Kedar Jadhav, Mohammad Nabi, Sherfane Rutherford, and Vijay Shankar
