Exclusive: India vs Zimbabwe 2024 Best Predicted T20 Squad List

Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead as we look at the best squad and players list for India vs Zimbabwe 2024 T20 series.

Amidst the ongoing T20 World Cup for the Indian team, one section of the team is already planning for the next tour and the things surrounding that post the World Cup. There’s plenty of action happening off the field for the Indian team with the focus on announcing the next coach, and a young brigade that is likely to feature in the upcoming Zimbabwe tour in July.

Team India will be starting their post T20 World Cup campaign with the Zimbabwe tour where they will be playing a total of 5 T20Is. The tour begins on July 6 and concludes on July 14 with all matches being played in Harare. Given that the tour starts just after the T20 World Cup, most of the senior players may not feature during the tour.

As has been the history, Team India usually selects a young squad that usually takes their first steps in the International Cricket. But which players are likely to feature in the squad for the Indian team, and who will lead the team? Well, let’s analyze the young brigade, and find out the best 16-member squad that the Team may deploy for the 2024 T20 series vs Zimbabwe.

India vs Zimbabwe 2024  Best T20 Squad for Indian Team

Openers – Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Shubman Gill & Yashasvi Jaiswal

Starting with the openers, there isn’t much to choose for the Indian team except for one key change. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill select for themselves after being a part of the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, but not getting an opportunity to play as yet. So, these two are confirmed to feature in the West Indies series. Supporting them shall most likely be Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will mostly play at number 3 on the backdrop of a fantastic IPL 2024, and will also lead the squad. 

Other than these three, one player who is likely to get a maiden call for the Zimbabwe tour is Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek has had a fantastic domestic season and IPL 2024. He looked belligerent in his approach in the IPL 2024 with a strike rate in excess of 200. With consistency also helping him, and his useful bowling, Abhishek may get the reward call for his superb performance overall.

WKs – Dhruv Jurel & Sanju Samson

Talking about the selection of the wicket-keepers, India’s primary wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant may be rested for tour just like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli. With Pant not there, Dhruv Jurel is likely to join Sanju Samson as the two wicket-keepers in the squad. Both feature for the same side in the Indian Premier League, and are also the two best wicket-keeping options for the Indian team. Unfortunately, Ishan Kishan may continue to remain on the sidelines for now. 

Finishers – Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh & Tilak Varma 

Talking about the finishers, India are likely to rest the trio of Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. With these not there, India will stick to Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, and Tilak Varma as the best three lower-order and finishing options. While Rinku Singh is already a part of the Indian team, Riyan Parag should get a maiden call against the backdrop of a fantastic IPL 2024.

In addition, to these two, India are likely to include Nitish Reddy as the pace all-rounder in the side. Nitish had a fantastic IPL 2024, and his all-round ability may be quite vital for the Indian team as a successor to Hardik Pandya. With Nitish as one of the names, India are also likely to include Tilak Varma as the other solid batting option.

Bowlers – Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Harshit Rana, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav & Ravi Bishnoi

Coming to the spinners, India should mostly drop Yuzvendra Chahal, who was anyway selected only for the T20 World Cup. With Chahal not there, India should persist with Kuldeep Yadav during the tour. Kuldeep hasn’t played in the group stage of the tournament, so maybe persist for the Zimbabwe tour. In addition, India may give an opportunity to Ravi Bishnoi as the supporting wrist spinner to Kuldeep Yadav.

Talking about the pace attack, all eyes will be on the next generation of pace bowlers for the Indian team. Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested, but Arshdeep Singh should continue to be a part of the Indian team for the Zimbabwe tour. With these two there, India should give an opportunity to Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed, who are also among the traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup 2024.
